Concept of Ayurvedic Medicines
Ayurvedic
Medicines have been used by man since the beginning of human culture
as a source of medicine. Ayurvedic drugs refer to the plant derived
materials or preparations with therapeutic or other human health
benefits which contain either raw or processed ingredients from
one or more plants.
Before
l8th century the whole humanity was depending on Ayurvedic drugs
for meeting health care needs. Introduction of abstract medicine
in the form of basic chemicals and pharmaceuticals during the
l8th and l9th century has demonstrated methods for bringing quick
relief from sufferings and this won instant admiration and popularity.
This system known as 'Allopathic' made rapid advances during the
l9th and 20th century, as a result of the spectacular advances
made in biological, chemical and pharmaceutical sciences.
Now the pendulum is swinging back and the Ayurvedic Medicines
are finding increasing demand worldwide. During the boast decade
there has been an ever increasing demand for Ayurvedic/Herbal
drugs and Ayurvedic/Herbal cosmetics especially from the developed
countries.
This revival of interest in Ayurvedic/Herbal drugs and other natural
products is mainly due to the increased awareness and mounting
scientific evidence of harmful side effects of most of the modern
chemical drugs, antibiotics, cortisones etc.
According to a survey conducted by WHO, the use of medicinal plant
remedies are on the increase even in the developed countries especially
among the younger people. In the industrialized countries, the
consumers are seeking safe alternative to modern medicine. The
promotive and preventive medicines widely prevalent in oriental
medicine especially the Indian (Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Amchi)
and the Chinese systems of medicine are finding increasing popularity
and acceptance the world over

words: Ayu which means life and Veda which means the knowledge
. To know about life is Ayurveda. However, to fully comprehend
the vast scope of Ayurveda let us first define "Ayur"
or life. According to the ancient Ayurvedic scholar Charaka, "ayur"
is comprised of four essential parts. The combination of mind,
body, senses and the soul.
Origin
of Ayurveda Ayurveda
is an intricate system of healing that originated in India thousands
of years ago. We can find historical evidences of Ayurveda in
the ancient books of wisdom known as the Vedas. In the Rig Veda,
over 60 preparation were mentioned that could be used to assist
an individual in overcoming various ailments. The Rig Veda was
written over 6,000 years ago, but really Ayurveda has been around
even longer than that. What we see is that Ayurveda is more than
just a medical system. It is a Science of Life. We are all part
and parcel of nature. Just as the animals and plants live in harmony
with nature and utilize the Laws of Nature to create health and
balance within their beings, we, too, adhere to these very same
principles. Therefore, it is fair to say that Ayurveda is a system
that helps maintain health in a person by using the inherent principles
of nature to bring the individual back into equilibrium with their
true self. In essence Ayurveda has been in existence since the
beginning of time because we have always been governed by nature's
laws.
In the recent times, man came to recognize the value of Ayurveda
and appreciate the age-old techniques of maintaining health on
the basis of natural changes of body. Ayurveda, the science of
life, has prescribed the detailed regimen of everyday, every season
and every age. By following which a person will remain healthy
at both physical and mental levels. With the assistance of highly
qualified Ayurvedic specialist Aarogyam World offers a complete
analysis of your body and mind and the behavioral pattern that
one has to follow.
Constitution
of Ayurveda Knowledge
of personal Ayurvedic constitution is very important in both prevention
as well as treatment of a disease. According to Ayurveda the body
comprises of three primary life-forces which in the Ayurvedic
terminology are called doshas. Because they are three in number,
they are generally termed as Tridosha. These three doshas are
vata, pitta and kapha. To have a better understanding they can
be compared to air, fire and water respectively. These doshas
are spread all over the body and regulate the functioning of every
tissue cell by being present in each one of them. They are responsible
for the psycho-physical nature of the individual.
This
psycho-physical nature of the individual is known as prakriti
or constitution. Though each one of us have all the three doshas,
the proportion varies. The constitution of the individual is decided
by the predominant dosha. For example a person who has vata as
the predominant dosha is generally tall and thin, has poor memory,
is fearful ,anxious, nervous, has dry skin and low weak voice,
has variable appetite and likes travelling.
